Since 1976. The three Steves—Jobs, Wozniak and Sculley—formed their company on April 1 of that year. Coincidence? We think not. (And we do wonder what Jobs’ first April Fool’s prank was!)

The name Apple is simply a shortened version of apple computer. Most people know that, but do you realize that when they first changed their name to incorporate Apple, they didn't own any type of apple-related trademarks? The company that made Macintosh computers initially went by Apple Computers Inc., until 1985 when it became just Apple Computer Inc. When Steve Jobs saw what had happened he decided to buy up all apple-related trademarks he could find.
