10 Will we ever see ads on Facebook?

Using Facebook, the social media giant that now has almost 1 billion active users, you can share pictures, videos, and much more with your friends or even with people you don’t know at all. These 10 facts about Facebook may surprise you! Let’s see what they are!

Fact #1: The largest number of members

Facebook has 894 million active users on a monthly basis and over 1.13 billion registered users as of July 2015. This makes it one of the largest social networks in terms of active memberships. Interestingly, most people find it hard to believe that 40% of accounts are duplicates or spambots. Who knew?

Fact #2: The world's largest photo sharing platform

With over 10 billion uploaded images and more than a billion users, Facebook has become one of the world's largest photo sharing platforms. The average user has 130 friends and adds 70 more in her lifetime; while there are 60 million photographs shared every day. If you've ever posted photos on Facebook (and we know you have), then at least one or two people out there would be able to identify it as yours.

Fact #3: Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook profile picture

There is no profile picture for Mark Zuckerberg on his own Facebook page. He's just a blue square. In fact, if you've ever liked, commented or poked Mark on his page, you'll notice that he doesn't even show up as a person on your friends list. When you view his profile, he appears as a blue dot to acknowledge that you've liked/commented/poked him; but otherwise he is just an outline - much like how your profile will appear to other users of Facebook.

Fact #4: The longest chain on earth

In 2009, 10 people from a small town in India formed a human chain covering 250 miles (400 kilometers). They did it to create awareness about preventing tuberculosis. The event was deemed unbreakable and was named World's Longest Human Chain. This record has been broken many times, most recently by Pakistanis who created a chain lasting 1,811 miles (2,921 kilometers).

Fact #5: Who started the social network?

It's not exactly a secret that Facebook was co-founded by Mark Zuckerberg and Chris Hughes back in 2004. But, what you may not know is that Harvard roommates Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss have claimed they had an idea for a social network years before they formed it with Zuckerberg.

Fact #6: What are news feed, ticker tape, group, friend request and poke?

All these terms should be familiar to you by now, but if not, don’t feel bad. I didn’t know about them either until I started working at Facebook. The first three are found when you click on Home in your timeline; Friend Request and Poke are found in the left navigation bar.

Fact #7: How to write on someone's wall?

To post on someone's Wall, you first have to add them as a friend. Next, go to their profile page and click on Write something... above their cover photo. As soon as you do that, a little message box will appear below and ask what exactly you want to write on their Wall. Type your message in that box and hit submit.

Fact #8: How do you comment on a status update?

To comment on a status update, tap Comment at the top of your friend's post. Then, enter your message and hit Post Comment. It's that easy!

Fact #9: Do like and comment on your own status updates?

This might seem like a pretty obvious fact, but there are people out there who will see your status update, do a quick like or comment on it as to not look too suspicious, and then move on with their lives without actually reading what you wrote. So let’s all make a pact to only like and comment on our own statuses from now on—and if you have to find someone else to do it for you, that's fine. Just don't pretend.

Fact #10 Will we ever see ads on Facebook?

Facebook has reportedly turned down deals from major brands, including McDonald's and Starbucks, because of concerns that ads on its site would tarnish its reputation. Whether or not we'll see ads soon remains to be seen; however, rumors continue to swirl about how it might eventually bring in ad revenue. It's been suggested that brands could one day buy products for their followers and pay for sponsored stories about their business.
