1) What You Need
Lightworks is an open-source, cross-platform editing program that can be used to edit videos and other types of media files. This guide will teach you how to download, install, and use Lightworks on your computer. It’s compatible with most operating systems, and it has plenty of free training resources online so you can learn more about how to use it effectively.
What You Need
You’ll need a few things before you can begin editing your video. You’ll need some sort of recording device, whether it be a phone or camera, and you’ll also need software. There are a number of different options available when it comes to editing software. Final Cut Pro is one of the most popular among professionals, while iMovie is popular among those who use iPhones.
The Software Interface
To begin editing, you’ll need to launch Lightworks. Clicking on its icon will take you directly into a stripped-down version of its software interface, which is comprised of two panels: The top one lists tools for video and audio editing; beneath it is a timeline where your edited projects will appear. On that timeline, you can also click and drag clips around if you want them in a different order—just like with most video-editing software.
Open Source Plugins
While many professional editors use Adobe Premiere Pro for video editing, free and open source projects have also cropped up in recent years. One such project is Lightworks, a video editor that supports full-blown Hollywood-style editing with lots of bells and whistles. After you learn how to edit videos in Premiere Pro, learning how to edit videos in Lightworks will be a snap.
Working with Projects
When you open a project in Lightworks, you’ll see that all of your projects have been placed in three sections: Movie Projects, Productions, and Editing. There are also tabs at the top of each window that let you view clips and effects while in other sections (such as Playlist View). The following steps will focus on editing video inside one of these three subsections.
Importing Files Into an Existing Project
To import a file, click Import Media in your project window. Select the directory you want to search for media. Then, select an individual file or an entire folder of files (or multiple folders) and click Open. The first video that Lightworks encounters will be added as a track into your timeline; all other videos will be imported as new tracks automatically.
Editing Videos in Timeline View
In order to edit your videos, you will need to use Timeline view. This view is located in upper-left corner of your screen. You can also press N at any time in order to toggle between Classic and Timeline views.
Trimming Clips and Video Effects
By far, one of the most time-consuming parts of video editing is trimming clips. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that it’s a waste of time because you should have trimmed your clips before you started editing. There are a number of simple ways to trim your clips in Lightworks 15 2022.
Renderings and Exporting Files
Once you’ve completed your video project, you’ll need to export it as a file. You can do so by clicking File>Export in Windows and File>Export in Mac OS. Keep in mind that editing a large video file is a time-consuming process, depending on your system hardware and software, so don’t wait until the last minute or expect your project to render overnight. Render at night while you sleep!
